Indifference in Gnosis and the Birth of Humanity

Are we not all in a state of waiting, from birth until death?

We are in a constant waiting room, moving through it without truly realizing it.

So, do not rush.
Do not burden yourself with worries.
Let things flow as a river flows—calmly, without resistance.

Your existence, no matter how long it lasts,
no matter how much you speak, act, or reflect,
is ultimately a simulation of what is yet to come.

Yes, your existence—and everything surrounding it—is but a trial and an experience.

Let us, then, embark on the adventure of diving into the state of “indifference”,
where thought precedes tradition,
and where questions are more important than answers…

The Path of Knowledge: A Grueling Journey

The path of knowledge is arduous and exhausting.
Blessed are those who live in ignorance, as Abu al-Tayyib al-Mutanabbi once said:

“The man of reason suffers in bliss through his mind,
while the ignorant revels even in misery.”

Whoever has tasted the forbidden fruit of knowledge has fallen into its trap.
There is no way back.
Thus, I say to myself and to you: May your reward be great.
All we can do is endure patiently until we leave this life.

The Sequence of Gnostic Exploration

Originally, I intended to discuss “Deism,”
but I preferred to maintain the sequence I outlined in my notes “The Absolute Zero God,”
which documents a long journey contemplating the evolution of the divine concept in human consciousness.

This journey began with indifference,
then moved through Deism,
and culminated in Atheism as the peak of this intellectual evolution.

So tell me: What do you believe in?
And I will tell you from which era your ideas come:

  • The traditionalist: lives in indifference.

  • The contemporary: believes in a deity.

  • The progressive: is the atheist, the one striving for truth.

And so, the atheist suffers,
because he is ahead of his time.

Indifference: The Origin of Human Existence

Indifference is not a deviation—it was the beginning.

It is not “indifference” in the negative sense, but rather a state of dormancy:
readiness before motion, the silence before the explosion.

In Gnosis, states of consciousness are divided as follows:

  • Mechanical instinct (neutral/stagnant): from inanimate matter to higher animals.

  • Indifference (dormancy): an internal readiness that has not yet been activated.

  • Engagement: active involvement in life, both mentally, emotionally, and materially.

Humans alone were able to move beyond indifference into engagement.
Other creatures remain within their instinctive nature,
but humans possess the potential for transformation.

Yet indifference is not absolute; it is relative.
A person may be engaged in one aspect and indifferent in another.

Especially when it comes to concepts like “God” and “the Divine,”
we call this specific state “Gnostic Indifference.”

Today, most humans are deeply engaged with the material world.
Only a few have transcended toward gnosis.

The Role of the Female in the Birth of Gnosis

The first elite to walk the path of Gnosis were women.

Through their isolation in caves—during childbirth and child-rearing—
a silent, contemplative awareness was born within them.

In the beginning, woman was worshiped as a goddess,
the source of life,
while man served her and guarded her.

But when humanity discovered the male’s role in reproduction,
the balance shifted.
The centrality of the feminine collapsed,
and authority became patriarchal.

Woman was reduced to a mere “vessel” for procreation.

Yet Gnosis never forgot that it was the feminine consciousness
that first planted the seeds of awareness.

The Future of Humanity: Beyond Gender

Humanity is moving toward transcending the gender binary (male and female).

In the future, gender will likely become a choice, not a biological constraint.
A person will be measured by their essence, not by their sex.

This trend has already begun to gain acceptance and will, with time,
become completely normalized.

Ultimately, human beings will be liberated from gender constraints.

The male and female will integrate within the “complete human being,”
carrying within themselves the meaning of “God” and “the Divine”—
not as representations of father and mother,
but as a unified, essential reality.

Indifference: A Primitive State at Its Core

The fact that indifference is a primitive state does not necessarily make it negative.
Rather, it signifies an earlier phase of development.

The indifferent human resembles the primitive being.
While the aware, the bold, the seeker of understanding, is the more evolved form.

From here arises the notion of agnosticism among the general masses.
But for the gnostic, agnosticism is an illusion.

The gnostic understands that indifference is simply a stage—
whereas agnosticism is seen as a form of falsehood and loss.

The Three Stages of Human Development in Gnosis

Stage One: Pre-Human (Before the First Adam)

The phase referred to by the gnostics as “Before the First Adam”
was the era of the higher animals.

Creatures operating under mechanical instinct,
where the essence of humanity had not yet emerged.

The Quranic verse, “Indeed, I will place upon the earth a vicegerent,”
refers to this transitional phase.

The angels objected:

“Will You place upon it one who causes corruption and sheds blood?”
— describing the attributes of animal nature, not yet true humanity.

But the Divine saw in some of them the potential for transformation:
moving from instinct, to indifference, and finally to engagement.

It was from among these beings that the human line eventually arose.

Stage Two: Creation — From Animal to Human

A genetic mutation occurred,
leading to the emergence of a new type.

A being fundamentally different:
no longer purely animal,
but not yet fully human either.

A transitional creature.

This was the “human embryo” that inhabited Africa—
the beginning of what we now call “Homo habilis.”

They had no developed language,
nor advanced tools,
but they walked upright and lived in caves.

“LUCY,” the famous fossil found in Ethiopia,
is an example of this early form.

Stage Three: Homo habilis — Childhood and Eden

The true birth of humanity begins here, according to Gnosis.

At this stage, humanity:

  • learned to name things,

  • crafted tools,

  • discovered fire.

In Gnostic symbolism, this phase is referred to as “Eden.”
And Africa was the Garden of Eden.

Humans were free in everything—
except for one restriction:
not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge.

But eating from that tree, in symbolic terms,
signified the beginning of humanity’s exit from innocence,
the descent into the material world,
and the acceptance of death.

Thus began humanity’s exodus from Africa,
and the start of a new phase of consciousness.

Conclusion

Indifference was never a weakness of consciousness.
It was the moment of silence that preceded the cosmic explosion within the human mind.

It was the origin from which:

  • the first questions emerged,

  • the first curiosity was born,

  • the first rebellion ignited.

Indifference was the womb that nurtured the birth of the complete human being:
the seeker, the thinker, the knower.

When we understand that indifference is not the end,
but rather the beginning,
only then can we truly continue the journey.

A journey:

  • toward the self,

  • toward knowledge,

  • toward liberation.

And because we do not have the luxury of standing still,
every step we take on this path—
even if paved with doubt—
brings us closer to truth.

So walk your path… even if you must walk it alone.
