Why Has Islam Survived Until Today?
Some may ask: Why does Islam still exist today? Is it due to its inherent strength and teachings that suit all times, or are there other factors that have contributed to its survival despite changing circumstances and societal advancements?
The truth is that Islam has not survived because its fundamentalists strictly adhered to its original teachings and applied them as they were revealed. In fact, if Islam had been implemented exactly as Muhammad preached it—without modification or reinterpretation—it might have collapsed centuries ago, just like many ancient religious ideologies. Instead, Islam has persisted due to the efforts of those who sought to “modernize” it, distort its texts, and conceal its true nature in order to make it more palatable to contemporary societies.
Islam Between Original Texts and Reform
Islamic texts clearly call for jihad, violence, the imposition of Sharia, and the subjugation of non-Muslims. The Quran states:
“Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah: 3)
And also:
“And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it.” (Surah Al-Hashr: 7)
However, over time, a faction of Muslims, calling themselves reformers or moderates, attempted to conceal these aspects of Islam or reinterpret them in misleading ways to align with modern humanitarian values.
The Quran itself warns about those who alter its message:
“They distort words from their [proper] usages.” (Surah An-Nisa: 46)
And also:
“Do you believe in part of the Scripture and reject the rest?” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 85)
Hypocrites and Opportunists: The Real Reason for Islam’s Survival
Islam has not endured because of devout believers who adhere strictly to its original teachings but because of those who claim to be reforming it—whether they are Quranists, liberal Muslims, or politicians exploiting the religion for their own agendas. These individuals, while pretending to “improve” Islam, actually help extend its lifespan by obscuring its true nature.
The Quran describes such people as “hypocrites”:
“Among the people are those who say, ‘We believe in Allah and the Last Day,’ but they are not believers.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 8)
“And when they meet those who believe, they say, ‘We believe.’ But when they are alone with their devils, they say, ‘Indeed, we are with you; we were only mocking.’” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 14)
Who Benefits from Islam’s Continuation?
It is not in the interest of global powers to eliminate Islam entirely. Instead, they maintain it as a tool to keep Muslim societies weak and fragmented. Imperialist forces and large multinational corporations support the continuation of Islam because it serves as a barrier against the liberation and progress of these societies. They understand that nations controlled by a religion that discourages critical thinking and innovation will never be able to compete globally in science, economics, and technology.
The Need to Combat the Illusion of a “Modern Islam”
It is essential to recognize that attempts to “reform” Islam or make it appear more humane are nothing more than a deception designed to prolong its existence in new forms. Those who promote ideas like “liberal Islam” or “humanitarian Islam” are merely delaying its inevitable decline.
Figures like Mohamed Talbi, Olfa Youssef, Adnan Ibrahim, and Gamal Al-Banna—and many others across the Muslim world and the West—attempt to present Islam in a way that makes it acceptable to modern society. However, in reality, they are merely sugarcoating its original teachings to deceive the public. Their role is similar to that of medieval Christian theologians who tried to preserve Christianity despite its contradictions with scientific progress.
The Solution: Exposing Islam as It Truly Is
To fight against the manipulation of Islam and its continued deception, it is crucial to expose it for what it truly is—without distortions or justifications. Islam does not need “modernization”; it needs to be understood as it is, without illusions.
When the violent, discriminatory, and oppressive teachings of Islam are laid bare, there will no longer be room for reinterpreting them as “symbolic” or “metaphorical.” The texts are explicit and undeniable:
- “Kill them wherever you find them.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 191)
- “Fight them until there is no more disbelief, and the religion is all for Allah.” (Surah Al-Anfal: 39)
- “Fight those who do not believe in Allah or the Last Day… until they pay the jizyah with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.” (Surah At-Tawbah: 29)
Conclusion
If Islam still exists today, it is not because of its inherent strength or timeless relevance but because of those who distort its teachings and conceal its true nature, supported by political systems that benefit from its survival. Real change will not come through “reforming” Islam but by exposing it as it truly is.
The goal here is not to incite hatred or violence but to enlighten and reveal the truth. Everyone deserves to know the reality of Islam—without filters, without deception—and then make their own informed decision about it.
