The Illusion of God

My fascination with the idea of a perfect God—one that transcends everything—pushed me to approach Him and to try to resemble Him as much as possible. I sought to know Him through traditional religious discourse, then turned toward mystical and esoteric thought, which aims to surpass the external religious form to reach a deeper divine nature.

A Disillusioning Discovery

I realized that what mystics consider to be the divine nature is nothing more than human nature in its highest form. What was supposed to be “God” is, in fact, an ideal human being who has yet to appear—a being through whom we can free ourselves from material constraints to discover the infinite essence of humanity.

You cannot imagine my disappointment upon making this discovery. I struggled to reject it, attempting to go further in my search for divine nature—but in vain. And so, I suddenly realized that the idea of God is purely human—a misinterpretation of the mirage emerging from human nature—which is nothing more than a reflection of itself.

The Illusion of God Throughout History

Throughout history, humanity has attributed everything beyond its understanding to divine forces, simply because of ignorance. What we once believed to be divine phenomena were nothing more than natural occurrences misinterpreted by primitive minds.

Imagine several caravans lost in the desert, each seeking a different necessity:

  • One caravan, desperately searching for water, begins to hallucinate an oasis, advancing toward it, believing it to be their salvation.
  • Another caravan, in search of shade from the sun, perceives a mirage as a protective shelter, heading toward it for survival.
  • A third caravan, in need of help, sees a distant mirage as another caravan, hoping to reach it for assistance.

This simple analogy perfectly illustrates how different human interpretations of divine nature emerged. Each group perceived God according to its immediate needs, projecting a mirage of hope onto the unknown. And just as these illusions saved those lost caravans from despair, so did the illusion of God help humanity survive in its primitive state.

However, once these caravans found real water, shade, or help, continuing to believe that the mirage was real would be irrational and dangerous. Likewise, the God-concept, which once served as a beacon of hope, has now become an obstacle to human progress.

God as a Human Projection

Thus, we realize that God is not a divine creator, but rather a human-made idea, born from human aspirations for perfection. What we once thought was God is merely a reflection of our highest potential—an ideal humanity yet to be realized.

In other words, God did not create humans—humans created the idea of God. And just as humans invented this concept, they must now surpass it to embrace their own destiny.

Every thought that surpasses human comprehension is automatically recorded in the universal consciousness until the day it is realized. Just as ancient people dreamed of flying before eventually achieving it, the idea of God is simply another human aspiration—one that may be fulfilled in a completely different way than expected.

The End of the God Myth

The time has come for humanity to move beyond myths, prophecies, and divine stories. Instead of waiting for salvation from an external power, it must embrace reason, analysis, and critical thinking to take control of its own fate.

Have you not noticed that God no longer sends prophets? Perhaps He sees that we believe in Him too much, and so He has distanced Himself, waiting for us to stand on our own. Or, perhaps, He never existed in the first place—merely a human illusion perpetuated throughout history.

Why Must We Abandon the Idea of God?

  • Because believing in God prevents humans from taking responsibility for their own lives, leading them to depend on external forces for solutions.
  • Because the belief in an afterlife allows people to escape the reality that death is the end, rather than facing the truth with courage.
  • Because the God-concept suppresses human ambition, making people think their fate is out of their hands, when in fact, they alone control their destiny.

If the idea of God served a purpose in ancient times, today, it has become a barrier to progress. Just as a child must eventually outgrow their dependence on a parent, humanity must outgrow its reliance on God.

The True God: Humanity Itself

The only real God is humanity itself—its intelligence, its resilience, and its infinite potential.

If there were a real divine creator, it could only be humanity, for humans are the true architects of their destiny.

The “God” that humanity invented was merely a projection of its aspirations, but people failed to recognize this truth. Now, it is time to seize our future, to take responsibility for our own evolution, and to move forward without the illusion of God.
