Contaminated Zamzam Water Sold in Britain<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The BBC<\/strong> has revealed that drinking water contaminated with arsenic, allegedly sourced from Zamzam well<\/strong><\/a> in Mecca, is currently being sold in British stores.<\/p>\n

According to laboratory analyses, samples taken directly from the source contain chemical and biological substances harmful to human health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Pilgrims and visitors to Saudi Arabia are allowed to bring limited quantities of Zamzam water<\/strong> for personal use, but its importation for commercial purposes is prohibited<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

However, an undercover researcher discovered that large quantities of bottled Zamzam water<\/strong> are being sold in South and East London suburbs<\/strong>, as well as in the town of Luton<\/strong>, north of the capital.<\/p>\n

“We strongly advise against drinking Zamzam water sold in the markets under any circumstances.”<\/em><\/p>\n

A BBC investigative report<\/strong> found that these bottles are being sold<\/strong> in Islamic bookstores in areas such as Wandsworth (Southwest London), Upton Park (East London), Luton, and Bedfordshire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Carcinogenic Substances and Health Risks<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Campbell explained:<\/p>\n

“This water contains high levels of arsenic<\/strong>, a carcinogenic substance<\/strong> that can lead to cancer.”<\/em><\/p>\n

He added:<\/p>\n

“Given its religious significance for Muslims who travel to Mecca for pilgrimage, we recommend consuming only limited, controlled amounts and not exceeding them to safeguard health.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Daily Dependence on It<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Secret recordings revealed that some store customers in London consume Zamzam water daily<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A bookstore owner in Upton Park<\/strong> stated that his customers rely entirely on it and drink nothing else<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

UK Food Standards Agency Warning<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Last year, the UK Food Standards Agency<\/strong> recommended avoiding the importation of this water<\/strong>, asserting that its source is questionable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sample Testing and Findings<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The BBC<\/strong> requested a pilgrim to collect samples from water taps connected to the well in Mecca<\/strong>, as well as purchase bottled versions there<\/strong>, and then compare them with the water being sold illegally in Britain.<\/p>\n

Laboratory analyses showed that samples from both sources contained<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    Dr. Younis Ramadan Tinaz<\/strong>, an environmental health expert<\/strong> who previously warned about the contamination, stated that this issue carries a sensitive religious dimension<\/strong>, as Muslims regard it as sacred water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    He added:<\/p>\n

    “Some may find it difficult to believe that Zamzam could be contaminated.”<\/em><\/p>\n

    He urged the Saudi and British authorities<\/strong> to take necessary actions to address the issue.<\/p>\n
